Invisalign is a cosmetic dental treatment that uses a series of removable invisible braces or clear aligners to gradually straighten your teeth over a period of 9 to 18 months.

Invisalign uses clear, medical-grade plastic aligners that are practically invisible, to systematically and efficiently straighten your teeth without any traditional metal brackets. It’s also completely removable, so that you can take your aligners out to eat, brush and floss as normal.

Because these appliances are clear and removable, the teeth straightening process is discreet and therefore very popular with adults.

The Benefits of Invisalign.

·       The durable, transparent thermoplastic material of the Invisalign aligners is almost impossible to see.

·       The Invisalign aligners are completely removable and as such, it is easy to maintain the daily oral hygiene routine needed to reduce the chance of plaque build-up, tooth decay and gum disease.

·       These invisible braces don’t rely on traditional metal appliances, so food and plaque are not trapped on the surface of the teeth.

·       Invisalign differs from traditional braces in that it actually controls the amount of force applied to each tooth and this reduces the length of the treatment in comparison with traditional orthodontics.

·       It is a fast treatment that requires approximately less than a year to transform a crooked smile into a glowing, beautiful new look.

Invisalign is ideal for those who have always wanted a better smile but have been putting off orthodontic treatments because of the social stigma associated with braces. Studies show that out of the 1.5 million people who have had or are having Invisalign treatment, 98% of them are satisfied with the results.

However, it’s important to remember that Invisalign cannot treat all orthodontic conditions such as severe over or underbites, severely tipped teeth, numerous missing teeth, or unerupted teeth.

While initially designed to treat misaligned teeth in pre-teens and teens, today Orthodontics covers the detection and treatment of teeth and jaw misalignments and irregularities in grown-ups as well.

That’s why today many adults are choosing to undergo orthodontics – to help them achieve that beautiful straight smile they have always wanted but never had an opportunity to correct in their younger years.

Using specialised custom appliances during the growth spurt of a child, a narrow or tapered arch of a child can be widened and the jaw brought forward. If the problem is treated early enough, orofacial orthopaedics can minimise or eliminate the need for secured braces in the future.

These type of appliances can also be used in adults to align the teeth in a more favourable position as a prelude to braces which, are later used to correct rotation, crowding and gaps amongst teeth.

Whether for your child or for you, there are many options available to help you correct dental imperfections. Find out which one of them best suits your needs by discussing your circumstances with Dr Mira Wilkinson.

How is it possible to straighten teeth in 6-9 months?

The digital bonding system uses 3D imaging to identify precise bracket position, essential for fast, straightforward orthodontic treatment. This allows us to achieve predictable tooth movement and the highest quality results in just 6-9 months. It also produces far better results than other systems that simply use technicians to hand place brackets.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

How do Clear Braces work?

We use the latest orthodontic technology to cosmetically align your teeth rapidly, yet safely. Using exclusive and revolutionary technology, we are able to share with you the final outcome of your treatment before and during treatment. Our technology also allows us to check the progress of your treatment giving you peace of mind.

Do Clear Braces discolour?

The braces do not discolour but very tiny elastics are placed around each bracket to hold the wire in position. The elastics discolour when eating specific foods but there is no need to worry as these elastics are replaced each visit.

Do I need to come in for adjustment appointments?

Our Dentist will see you every 4 weeks ensuring your treatment is progressing as planned and to ensure we are giving you a great smile in a short period of time.

Are Clear Braces uncomfortable?

Patients report their braces remain comfortable throughout the treatment. Some patients experience minor discomfort following the initial placement of the brackets. This will not interfere with your day to day life and the discomfort will subside within a couple of days.

Do Clear Braces cost more than regular braces?

Clear Braces are designed to be more affordable for adults, as treatment is completed in a shorter period of time and is therefor less expensive. We understand that cost can be a barrier, so we also offer, no interest, repayment plans through DentiCare.

How do Clear Braces straighten teeth so quickly?

We use the combination of a unique digital system to place the brackets with efficient mechanics to provide precise and predictable tooth movements in a shorter period of time.

Will my health insurance cover my treatment?

You can claim your treatment on your Health Insurance. Contact your provider to determine the actual entitlements.

Clear Braces or Invisalign - Which is for me?

Clear aligners such as Invisalign can be effective and may suit people's lifestyles, however some tooth movements are best achieved with braces. We offer both services so can provide you with adequate knowledge to make an informed decision.

Are Clear Braces for me?

Clear Braces are designed with adults in mind - to have a great smile in a short amount of time, and isn't going to break the bank. Generally speaking, Clear Braces can treat but is not limited to: Crowded teeth, spaced teeth, rotated teeth and flared teeth. Unfortunately not all aesthetic dental issues are treatable.

Will my teeth move when the braces are removed?

When your braces are removed, retainers will be made for your teeth. The removable retainer is to be worn full time for the first year, then every night in the second year. Patients then use the retainer 2-3 times per week indefinitely. Teeth will always have a tendency to move, so it is important you follow our instructions regarding retainer wear. The last thing we want is all the hard work to be undone.

Is the cost of retainers included in the initial cost?

The retainers are included in the cost of the treatment.
